Simulation Modelling

To study the scalability of wildfire phenomena we use a combination of modeling approaches. Detailed, small-scale models covering the behavior of individual fires are used to evaluate aspects of combustion and fire behavior. Parameterizations of wildfire processes, such as combustion rate and smoke plume injection height, are developed for inclusion into larger-scale simulation models. We work with collaborators such as ECWMF to exploit remote sensing observations in large-scale atmospheric modeling and forecasting systems.
